Yjagg Featured Customizer
The featured customizer for December 2013 is one of the easiest, friendliest customizers you'll ever meet. YoJoe-A-Go-Go (yjagg) has a keen eye for parts like when he used a wooden letter "E" for the Crimson Twins Extensive Enterprises desk. He certainly isn't afraid to take risks with his customs either. Just take a look at all of his recent NJC #74 Star Trek entries and you see the rewards of him pushing his skills, as well as his parts fodder, to the limit. Be sure to check out all of his customs in the Gallery Archive and the Critique's Section of the forum. Then read what he has to say about customizing below.
What do you enjoy customizing the most?
3 3/4' action figures, the 25th Anniversary I feel are the best (although I wish they had a screw in the back). I like to look at the old Joes, or Megos' from the 70's and 80's see how far the sculpts have come.
What brand of paint do you prefer?
I like Folk Art and Tamiya, for hand painting, and Krylon for the when you need a smooth base coat.
Where do you find inspiration for your customs?
For Joes, it started with adding females to the line up and then it became just adding what I think was missing from the line up. The "what's missing" carries over to everything because I loved having the 8 inch Mego's as a kid. Before I became a Marvel comic snob in the 80's I loved having Batman and Spiderman help Mr. Spock stop the Gorilla General from Planet of the Apes kill the Waltons (those were my sister's toys).
What do you consider to be your best tools of the trade?
A Swiss army knife it was a gift shortly after I started here on JC and it has touched almost every custom I have done since.
What is your strongest area when it comes to customizing?
I don't think I have a strongest area skill wise. I envy many of the regulars here. I think my ideas and vision for a custom are my strongest suit and my ability to see where something could fit (which is really just me trying to to make my life easier)- like my Capt. Sisko for the NJC the moment I saw the ROC Cobra Eel I thought Black Major, or a Starfleet uniform, or the IJ Henry Jones I was sure would work for Harry Dreseden.
