Xhairs Featured Customizer
You won't find a more prolific customizer than November 2011's Featured Customizer. xhairs is a customizing machine. He's always working on something and showing off his latest creations. He's a blue collar customizer who if you weren't watching you wouldn't even notice his improvement, not in leaps and bounds, but day after day. He has a style that is his own. If you haven't seen his work before go check out his customs in the Critiques section, but not before you read a little insight he has on the hobby.
What do you enjoy customizing the most?
My Joes as I see them a very specific way in my head. That is, to have them look uniformed while keeping their unique look. So you can still tell who is who for the most part. How I see the Joe line is 90% real and 10% sci fi. So I try and make my customs that way.
What brand of paint do you prefer?
I use games workshop and tamiya paints. As for me they work the best. Also I don't ever need to prime the parts.
Where do you find inspiration for your customs?
From the toys themselves, the toon, comics, real life, and other customizers.
What do you consider to be your best tools of the trade?
Dremel, glue, x-acto, paintbrushes, paint, dull coat, green stuff, stretchrite, and screwdriver. I think a lot of us use these.
What is your strongest area when it comes to customizing?
There are a lot of guys who are really good at doing it all. I wish I was like that at times. I think what sells my work is my removable gear I make for them. The slings for the guns. Next would be to combine the o-ring and 25th parts. 3rd would be how I make them uniformed while keeping there unique look.
Here are some of my favs.
