Over the years, the JoeCustoms Awards (JCA) have been a place to see some of the best of the best in world of customizing.

In 2008, the award for best G.I Joe custom went to gijoey for his Bulletman custom.

Here is what gijoey had to say about this award-winning custom.

Tell us about why you made this figure…what was your motivation?

I made the figure for a contest based on JFAK075’s “End of Days” verse. I’d been looking for a reason to make an updated Adventure Team and his verse supplied the inspiration. He’s basically the same guy from the 70’s only aged and retired.

How did you make this figure?

Once I had the base idea the rest of the figure came together quickly. He’s made from all New Sculpt parts with a hand sculpted helmet and Star Wars head.

How did you feel when you learned that you had won the JoeCustoms Award for this figure?

Stunned, I was stunned. I’ve always felt like my customs were over looked because of the subjects I chose to make. I call myself GI Joey but I rarely do Joe based customs. So when I finally do make one the reaction was overwhelming. I was stunned.

What would you would do differently, if anything, if you did this custom today

I wouldn’t do a thing differently. I waited so long to get the right idea and It turned out just how I’d hoped. You know what that’s not true if I could do this figure again I’d like to have had the parts chromed and still retain their articulation. But that’s not possible as far as I know sooooo…, Nope nothing different.  ;)

Tell us a little bit about the types of customs, if any, that you are working on these days. Are you still active in customizing Joes? Moved on?

I actually took a break from customizing because of work related stress and the lack of money coming in.

I had to make a figure for a commitment I’d made. Working on that figure sparked a new idea. A new beast verse based on Werewolves and Were-bats and were-beasts in general.

I’m not as active as I used to be. The new Joe's just don’t do it for me like the O-Rings do. Plus the fact that I’ve almost lost fingers trying to crack those torsos open. They scare me.

I am customizing though and have several projects in various stages. Some are even in the newest Joe's styles.
